Dance Attire

All students are required to wear appropriate dance attire.  For the safety of the students we require that they wear cover ups and street shoes to and from class.

Hair must be secured off the neck and away from the face.  All students in ballet class must have hair pinned up in a bun.

Leotards and Tights for all Early Childhood dancers should be pink with European pink tights (ballet) and/or black leotard with black tights (tap).  Main Intensive dancers should wear black leotards with European pink tights (ballet), tan or black tights (jazz or tap), and/or shorts or black convertible or footless tights (modern).  Pre-professional dancers have the choice of red, blue, green, and/or black leotards with European pink tights (ballet), tan or black tights (jazz, tap or modern).

Shoes, for all ballet classes, should have the proper elastics and/or ribbons (if applicable) properly sewn.  Please allow us to inspect the fit of ballet and pointe shoes before they are sewn or worn.  Tap shoes for Early Childhood dancers should be black flats.  Main Intensive and Pre-Professional dancers should have tan heeled shoes.  Jazz shoes for Early Childhood and Main Intensive dancers should be tan lace-up.  Pre-Professional dancers can wear slid-on or other pre-approved shoes.  For modern class students are required to go bare foot.

Gentlemen and boys should wear a white shirt, black shorts, and white sox with either white ballet slippers, or black jazz/tap shoes.

Observers
Family and Friends may observe classes during Open House In December each year.  Prospective students are encouraged to observe class, if available, prior to sign-up, with an appointment.  Please ask your individual teacher if you wish to enter the classroom during any other time.

Class Attendance and Make-up Classes
Students are encouraged to attend classes on a regular basis.  Students under the age of 18, without prior parental permission, may not leave the studios without a parent or guardian. All students should be picked up in a timely fashion, within 10 minutes of the end of class. Faculty and staff will not leave children unattended at the studio waiting to be picked up. No refunds are given for missed classes, but make-up classes are available upon request.  Closer to the Spring Performance, make-up classes will become less frequent.

Studio Etiquette
Students should show respect for the property of others and for the facilities: leave others belongings alone; help keep the studio building and grounds clean and neat by putting waste pater, etc. in the trash cans. No food or drink allowed in the studio, costume shop or administrative area. WATER may be brought into the studio in plastic bottles/empty bottles must be removed. All students must put their belongings in the places provided for them. The Center for Dance Education is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Dropping/Adding Classes
Students who wish to drop or add a class after registration should do so by filling out a Drop/Add form.  These forms can be found at each locations tuition box and can be returned to these boxes as well.  Please note, if no form is filled out your monthly/quarterly invoice will not show the effective change.

Student Leave due to Injury or Long-term Illness
Students who are required to take a leave of absence due to either injury or long-term illness should fill out a Drop/Add form.  These forms can be found at each locations tuition box and can be returned to these boxes as well.  It is very important these forms be filled as soon as or before the absence is taken.  We would like to adjust your monthly/quarterly invoice for the period of inactivity.  Please note, a long-term illness is considered any illness where the student is unable to attend class for four weeks or longer and has been diagnosed by a doctor.  A copy of the doctors’ note should be included when filling the Drop/Add form.

Cancellations due to Weather
If bad weather forces either the Richland District One or the Lexington District One to close, our respective studio will be closed as well. An email will be sent in the event that classes are canceled due to inclement weather.
